PT501是通用13.56MHz通信接口，该收发器IC可以在两种工作模式下运行：
- 适用于NFC点对点IP-1模式通信的无源目标器件
- 支持ISO/IEC 14443-A和FeliCa兼容协议的卡仿真模式
在卡仿真模式中，PT501收发器IC能够根据FeliCa或ISO/IEC 14443A/MIFARE卡接口方案应答读/写命令。
另外，PT501收发器IC在NFC点对点无源目标模式下提供了与NFCIP-1器件进行直接通信的可能性。按照Ecma 340和ISO/IEC 18092 NFCIP-1标准，NFCIP-1模式能提供不同的通信模式和最快424 kbit/s的传输速率。
采用了各种主机控制器接口：
- SPI接口
- 串行UART（类似RS232，电压电平取决于缓冲电压供应）
- I²C接口。
根据所实施的应用的不同，可能需要第三方专利许可。
